As Sun Tzu says, speed is the essence of war. Can you imagine how big the
story would have been if
the National
Security Advisor who had stolen secret documents had been Bush's instead
of Clinton's? Democrats are much better at reacting to these stories. They
fill the airwaves with high-ranking officials demanding action. One of the
things that they would certainly demand is the public release of the documents
involved. Since for national security reasons, the documents couldn't be
released, it would make it seem like a cover-up. The Republicans just aren't
as good at playing this kind of news, suggesting corruption. They are too slow
to make accusations and too concerned about national security to want to make
the Democrats look like they are covering up. Instead, it is the Democrats
that are giving interviews,
rushing to the defense of Berger.
