This article explains why people think they hate competition because they prefer cooperation. We mistakenly think that the opposite of competition is cooperation. If that were true, it would be impossible to compete for partnerships. If competing and cooperating were really opposites, competing for partners would mean competing to do the opposite of competing. We confuse competition with conflict when they are very different. The competitive strategy of Sun Tzu is specifically defined as "winning without conflict." Good strategy is impossible unless we understand the what competition really is and why it is necessary.
