This article explains that we live in an age of linear thinking where we are taught to rely on systematic pre-planned steps to address problems. Within the controlled environments of our schools, we are taught to obey instructions. Workers on the production line repeat of standard steps. In production environments, innovation occurs relatively rarely. It usually comes from decisions outside those doing the work. Constant creativity by the workers on the line would disrupt the process of standard production. The problem is that this balance of standards and innovation is completely different in competitive environments.
