Modern Verification

Question:

Is the Art of War by Sun Tzu outdated?

Gary's Answer:

Modern science and human history have confirmed Sun Tzu’s ideas about how competition works rather than disprove them. While there are many popular misconceptions today about what competition is and how it works, most modern psychology and psychological experiments on what is called “decisions science” confirm his views.

Remember, Sun Tzu taught that all competition was a comparison and that comparisons must be made before any decision is made. Sun Tzu wrote his book to counter the “physics of competition{, the idea that the biggest force always wins. Instead, he offered the “psychology of competition”, which is a lot more complicated than the physics partly because it must take the underlying physics into account while realizing there is much more involved than physical force.
