A reader, Kenneth, asks:
Did Sun Tsu mentioned the strategy "what got us here may not get us there"?
This thinking is very much the foundation of Sun Tzu's system.
His system is one of advancing positions. In a very physical sense, the path that got us to our current position is not the path that takes us to our next position. Every advance changes our situation.
Warrior Rules teach us how to respond to the conditions of our situation and, even without advancing our position, the conditions affecting our position are always changing. We must start with a very clear understanding of which conditions change (climate) and which persist over time (ground).
As we advance our position, that is, change our ground, we naturally encounter different conditions and must know how to deal with them. The range of rules involved is required by the range of conditions we can encounter
