The High Cost of Elitism: Movies the Indoctrinate Instead of Entertain

As someone who used to go to a movie at least once a week, nothing saddens me more than the fact that Hollywood has decided that politics are more important than entertaining its audience. Last week, we had The Constant Gardner, another crazy conspiracy film where the evil corporations can only make money by killing people. This week, we have Lord of War, which sounds like a movie I could really like, but is really just another anti-gun polemic. Hollywood loses an amazing amount of money selling its politics. In the fine tradition of Beyond Borders (humanitarian efforts in war-torn nations) that cost $60 million to make and market and grossed a whole $4 million in US release, these films cannot make money but continue to be made.
