Trend to Environmental Attacks? Redbox Video In Indiana

The Indiana DA has requested Redbox to remove all but G-rated videos from its kiosks. This attack was sparked by a lawyer representing local video rental stores. Apple vs. Google: An Environmental Attack

Apple filed a lawsuit against HTC, the maker of Google's Nexus One Android Phone. This in an interesting example of what Sun Tzu calls a "fire attack," but which we describe more generically in the Warrior's Rule Book as an attack based on an environmental vulnerability ([node:content/strategic-principle-day-90-most-dangerous-attacks-established-positions-are-environment-atta link]).

Ann Quindlen and the Failure of the Mainstream Media

A recent column by Ann Quindlen called "Follow the Leader" seems a great illustration of why the mainstream media is going bankrupt. Quindlen has written a long time for Newsweek, a dinosaur that is on its last legs. Her thesis here is that America's unhappiness with Obama arises because we are too confused to understand complex issues. Her writing then goes on to demonstrate that Ms. Quindlen is too confused to understand the simplest issues.

Conan, NBC, and the Limited Situation

Conan O'Brien's has effectively out-maneuvered NBC by refusing to move with the Tonight Show to 12:05. His decision is a great demonstration of how easily much larger opponents are challenged in a transitional situation that relies on a few key resources. This is technically known in strategy as a limited situation (6.4.8 Limited Situations).

Google Nexus One: A Delicate Position

The introduction of Google's new phone, the Nexus One, sets up a classical positioning problem (4.6.6 Sensitive Positions). Google's existing position as a software supplier to phone makers is endangered by their advance to a position competing with those same phone makers. In an earlier news item, we discussed how well positioned Google's Android operating system was to become the Windows of portable computing.
