This article explains how each competitive arena is unique. It has its own form and shape. We call this "the ground." It is the basis of competition, where we meet the competition and what we struggle to control. Most conditions affecting our strategic decisions are ground conditions. Unfortunately, our instincts and our egos combine to make seeking out local guides to the ground harder than it should be. We are naturally more comfortable with people who share our level of knowledge about the ground. For example, if we are new, we connect with other new people. The problem is that those people cannot help us. Most people are deluded about the depth of their knowledge. We are shy about connecting with those a lot more successful.
