This article explains the vulnerabilities that undermine an established position seem to come from out of nowhere. We seem suddenly blind-sided by an unexpected crises. But it that really true? Our vulnerability to conditions in the environment come largely from our false expectations of stability. If something has remained the same for any period of time, we come to expect it to continue to remain the same indefinitely. Where there is change, we falsely expect it to continue in the same direction. This is simply not the way the real world works. The problem is that our expectations have been warped by our training in linear thinking.
